    Since the reaction is endothermic you need a lot of energy for this. For example, when you want to compensate the CO2 from one coal fired power plant and take the efficiency into account you need at least twice the power of this plant. So the proposed method makes only sense when we have 100% renewable energy.

  • @lachris8710
    @lachris8710 4 роки тому

    Very interesting, but is it more cost efficient than other CO2 to solid technologies? Can you estimate the costs per ton of CO2?

    UA-cam is a worldwide system. Why do you ignore explaining the LOCATION of the work and make the viewer wait until the end to figure it must be in Australia. Who knows what RMIT is? This is terrible clickbait without any details, and by now, May 2, 2019, it must be filled so you should remove this video or update it.

    Falls der deutsche Klimaclan zuschauen sollte: Hier klar deutsch: Haben Wissenschaftler das Allheilmittel für die globale Erwärmung entwickelt? Forscher der australischen RMIT Universität in Melbourne haben zum ersten Mal einen elektrolytischen Prozess entwickelt, der Kohlendioxid in feste Kohle verwandelt. Bei Raumtemperatur wird das gasförmige Kohlendioxid durch flüssiges Metall (?) als Katalysator fortlaufend und sicher in eine feste Form gebracht. Üblicherweise wird die De-Carbonisierung durch Einbringung verflüssigten Kohlendioxides in den Untergrund angedacht oder es sind extrem hohe Temperaturen erforderlich. Das neue Verfahren erlaubt aber die Umwandlung bei Raumtemperaturen. Zudem erlaubt der Prozess, aus dem erzeugten Carbon direkt reine Elektroden für elektrische Fahrzeuge herzustellen. Damit ist dieser Prozess wohl der erfolgsversprechendste Durchbruch der Kohlendioxid Eindämmung. Vielleicht bewegt sich ja bald was in der Beamtenrepublik Deutschland. Nachhilfe vom Hartz-IV Empfänger!

    Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology.... From www.rmit.edu.au/news/all-news/2019/feb/carbon-dioxide-coal Lead author, Dr Dorna Esrafilzadeh, a Vice-Chancellor’s Research Fellow in RMIT’s School of Engineering, developed the electrochemical technique to capture and convert atmospheric CO2 to storable solid carbon. To convert CO2, the researchers designed a liquid metal catalyst with specific surface properties that made it extremely efficient at conducting electricity while chemically activating the surface. The carbon dioxide is dissolved in a beaker filled with an electrolyte liquid and a small amount of the liquid metal, which is then charged with an electrical current. The CO2 slowly converts into solid flakes of carbon, which are naturally detached from the liquid metal surface, allowing the continuous production of carbonaceous solid.

  • @fuccasound3897
    @fuccasound3897 5 років тому

    And the energy and carbon budget for producing those liquid metal catalysts in the first place is? In other words the process may use very little energy compared to 'hot' carbon capture, but what are the energy and carbon costs of mining and refining those liquid metals? I do hope this is feasible and not just a case of 'hopeium' The scale at which co2 needs to be removed is in the trillions of tons and this sounds like something for nothing, as somebody once said "there ain't no such thing as a free lunch."

  • @MaximusPsychosis

    so do we get to see this in action? is there going to be an explanation on how it works? or is it going to be a "lol, we can make coal using mercury! Believe me! we done this! best ever science in the world!"

    So really we can use coal to create electricity again. We wont be adding any additional co2 to the air if we can take it back out of the air. As long as we are able to take out more than we put in we can get it back to a good state. Kind of like a rinse and repeat.
